Human Serum, Factor H Depleted
Normal human serum with factor H removed by immunoaffinity chromatography. Supplied with 0.1 mM EDTA to inhibit spontaneous activation; the alternative pathway is functional only when a controlling factor such as factor H is added before metal ions (Mg²⁺).

Frequently Asked Questions
What are C1q- and factor-depleted human sera used for?
Each depleted serum has a single complement component (C1q, C1r, C1s, C2 through C9, or factor B, D, H, I or P) removed, so the affected pathway stalls until that component is added back. They are used to study the role of one component, as reagents in functional complement assays, and as controls in add-back experiments.
