A 2025 study by I-Hsiang Huang and colleagues examined monoclonal antibody 3-3F, a promising candidate for monkeypox virus (MPXV) neutralization.
Alone, 3-3F had only minor neutralizing activity. In the presence of Pel-Freez baby rabbit complement, however, inhibition of viral infection jumped from roughly 15% to roughly 75%, a clear demonstration of complement-dependent neutralization and of why a consistent, low-background complement source matters in infectious disease research.
