Standard protocol

A 9-week schedule you can plan around

Our standard rabbit immunization schedule delivers consistent antiserum and predictable timelines. Every phase, from acclimation to final collection, is monitored daily by experienced staff and overseen by our Attending Veterinarian. The schedule can be adjusted to your study.

  1. Day -6Week 0

    Acclimation and quarantine

Animals settle in for at least six days before any procedure.

  2. Day 1Week 1

    Pre-immune bleed and primary immunization

A pre-immunization serum sample is collected before the first dose.

2 weeks of daily health checks only

  3. Day 21Week 4

    Primary bleed and booster 1

Serum from the primary response is collected as the first booster is given.

2 weeks of daily health checks only

  4. Day 42Week 7

Booster 1 bleed and booster 2

Serum from booster 1 is collected as the second booster is given.

1 week of daily health checks only

  5. Day 56Week 9

    Terminal collection

Exsanguination yields the terminal antiserum, dispensed to your specifications and frozen at –80 °C.

Custom antibody and antiserum service outputs

Custom antibody and antiserum service outputs

The primary output of our custom antibody and antiserum production is high-quality terminal antiserum. Terminal antiserum is collected at the end of the immunization schedule, dispensed to your specifications, and frozen at –80 °C for long-term stability.

Intermittent serum samples, whole blood for PBMC isolation, and additional services, such as ELISA or antibody purification, can be arranged upon request.

Should I store antibodies at -20°C or -80°C, and should I aliquot them on delivery?
Either is fine, but avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Our antibodies contain glycerol, so they do not freeze at -20°C but do at -80°C. If you will use the antibody within a few weeks, store it at -20°C. For long-term storage, split it into single-use aliquots and store at -80°C.
What is your standard protocol for custom polyclonal antibodies and antiserum?
Our standard protocol uses New Zealand White rabbits, 10 weeks old at immunization. Depending on project requirements, either male, female, or both may be used.

The standard 9-week schedule includes acclimation, a primary immunization, two boosters, and a final bleed for terminal antiserum collection. The client provides the antigens, with adjuvants and positive or negative controls available upon request.
Do you offer antigen design or purification?
We do not currently offer antigen design or purification services. However, we’re actively exploring in-house capabilities and welcome collaboration to better understand your needs for future development.
Can you modify the standard immunization schedule?
Yes. Our standard 9-week schedule is designed for consistency, but we can adapt it to meet your study requirements. Adjustments to booster timing, sample collection, or additional test points can be made to support your research objectives.
Do you provide ELISA results with all projects?
ELISA testing is an additional service that can be added to your project to track antibody response throughout immunization. This allows for data-driven decisions on booster timing or antibody yield and can be paired with antibody purification or other downstream services.
How is animal welfare monitored during custom antibody and antiserum production?
All projects are conducted under IACUC oversight, with our Attending Veterinarian supervising every phase of the protocol. Our animal facilities are USDA-licensed, APHIS-inspected, and FACTA-certified for humane care and consistent, high-quality results. Find out more about our commitment to animal welfare here.
