The catalog shows the volumes and formats most people order. It isn't the limit of what we make. Because we raise our own rabbits, collect blood and tissue on site and process it ourselves, most of what appears on a product page can be changed: the volume, the anticoagulant, the age of the animals, the treatment, the label. Here's what "custom" covers in practice and how to ask for it.
Volumes and fills
Serum, plasma and complement are filled to order, so a non-catalog size isn't a compromise. If your assay uses 3 mL per run, a 100 mL bottle means thirty thaw cycles or thirty aliquots. A fill of 5 mL vials from one lot removes that step. At the other end of the scale, a manufacturer that needs liters of one lot can have the whole lot filled into the container it will draw from. Ask for the fill you want on a quote request.
Bulk and scheduled production
Rabbit serum, plasma and complement come from our own colony in Arkansas, so bulk volumes are scheduled against the production calendar rather than pulled off a distributor's shelf. Multi-liter lots of rabbit serum, rabbit plasma and complement are routine for diagnostic and vaccine manufacturers, and we can set up a standing order so the same volume arrives every quarter. The "Bulk" option on any product page starts that conversation.
Reserved lots
A study that runs for years shouldn't have to change reagent lots halfway through. When you find a lot that works, we can hold the rest of it for you and release it against your schedule. For human single-donor serum the same idea works at the donor level: evaluate a sample, then reserve the rest of that donor's collection. A reservation is cheap insurance in a long assay validation.
Made-to-order variants
The treatments that separate one catalog item from another are steps in our own process, so they can be applied to almost any serum or plasma:
- a specific anticoagulant or concentration for plasma, set at collection;
- sterile filtration of a non-sterile item, or heat inactivation at 56 °C for 30 minutes;
- delipidization of a serum we don't list delipidized;
- a particular age class of animal, or blood from reserved animals over repeated bleeds;
- lyophilization of a liquid product through our custom services, up to 250 L per batch.
Private labeling
Manufacturers who resell our products under their own name, or who need our lot to carry their part number and label format, can have the product labeled to their artwork and packed to their specification. The Certificate of Analysis can carry the same identifiers.
How to ask
Send us the specification you would write on the bottle: species, product, volume, treatment, anticoagulant, sterility, container, label, and the delivery schedule. Tell us what the reagent is for, too. It often points to a better option than the one you asked about. Custom work has a lead time that depends on the production calendar, so ask early. Request a quote or contact us and we'll tell you what's possible and when.
