immunodepletion services
Recover the value of your complement sera with our proprietary antibody depletion service. We remove interfering antibodies while preserving complement activity for hSBA and other vaccine studies.
Our products meet uncompromising quality and ethical standards.
From screening failures to assay-ready serum
Serum that fails qualification leaves you with costly, unusable material in an industry where every unit matters. Our proprietary antibody-depletion technology helps you reclaim samples by removing interfering IgG, IgM, and IgA while preserving complement activity.
Engineered for liter-scale production, we process samples from 500 mL to 5 L, followed by QC and CH50 testing. With our custom service, you can collaborate with our team to include additional analytes or tests tailored to your program.

Data spotlight: Antibody depletion rescues sera for hSBA
A large vaccine company contacted us for help after dozens of units of human complement failed hSBA screening due to high baseline antibody levels.
Using our bulk antibody depletion process, we converted their pooled sera into material suitable for use in hSBA. The client confirmed that the depleted complement was acceptable across multiple bacterial strains and test sera.
Waste less. Test smarter.
Our antibody depletion service turns unusable donor units into SBA-ready sera so you can:
- Save time and money: Reuse donor serum instead of sourcing new material.
- Improve assay success: Remove interfering antibodies to enable SBA testing across multiple bacterial strains.
- Maximize donor resources: Preserve complement function and extend the usefulness of every precious human donor unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
What sample volumes can be processed for Pel-Freez Biologicals’ custom antibody-depletion service?
Our custom immunodepletion service supports flexible lot sizes, from 500mL to 5L per project. For larger volumes or specialized projects, please contact our team to discuss scalability and logistics.
How is complement activity verified after custom antibody depletion?
We verify complement activity with CH50 testing. Additional analyte or functional testing can be arranged upon request to support your specific study needs.
Can you target specific antibodies for depletion?
Our proprietary affinity-based depletion method can be customized to remove specific antibody classes (IgG, IgM, and/or IgA) or other select analytes, depending on your assay requirements. We do not currently offer antigen-specific antibody depletion. However, we’re actively exploring in-house capabilities and welcome the opportunity to better understand your needs for future development.
How is Pel-Freez Biologicals’ antibody-depleted complement made?
We have developed a proprietary process for antibody removal based on affinity chromatography. Our method results in low residual antibody (<3% vs. feed serum) while maintaining high complement potency.
What’s the difference between Pel-Freez Biologicals’ antibody-depleted human complement (ADHC), heat-inactivated human complement (ADHC-HI), and antibody-depleted human serum (ADHS)?
ADHC: Retains high complement potency for use in assays that require functional complement activity.
ADHC-HI: Heat-inactivated to remove complement activity but retains other serum components. It is CH50 tested to confirm the absence of complement function and is suitable for assays that do not require active complement.
ADHS: A family of serum products for which complement activity has not been determined. These use normal human serum that was not specifically collected to preserve complement activity, is not heat-inactivated, and has not been CH50 tested. ADHS is often used as a negative matrix for dilution, QC sample preparation, or cell culture applications where complement activity could inhibit cell growth.
